New York State does not license roofers, and neither Clinton, Franklin, Essex, nor St. Lawrence county runs a contractor licensing program, so a license is not a signal anyone can offer here. We look for objective, checkable things instead:

• Current general liability insurance and New York workers' compensation coverage, shown by a Certificate of Insurance.
• Written contracts that meet NY General Business Law Article 36-A, including the three-business-day cancellation right and deposit protections.
• Written workmanship warranties on completed work.
• Transparent, itemized written estimates before any work is performed.
